Real-time translation for the videos you watch

Snagcast is a free app for Windows and Android that translates the videos you watch into your language in real time, as captions while they play.

Open a video on a website in Snagcast, YouTube included, or add a video file, and turn on captions. Snagcast uses the video's own captions, or hears what is said (100 spoken languages) and writes it down as the video plays, then translates each line into your language (49 to choose from). Captions and translation are made on your device: your videos are not sent to Snagcast.

How to

  1. Open the video in Snagcast: go to its website, or paste its link. A video file works too.
  2. Turn on captions: Captions beside the video on Windows, CC on Android.
  3. In the caption settings, turn on Translate captions and choose your language under Translate to.
  4. Play the video: the translated captions appear as it plays. Under Show, choose your language, the line as spoken, or both.

Keeping up

Captions are made from where the video plays, so they follow you when you skip ahead. On a slower phone or computer, turn on Wait for captions: the video pauses a moment where the captions run short, and plays on by itself once they are ready. Captions you made once are there at once when you watch that video again.

Free, or Pro

Each phone and computer translates 30 minutes of video for free, with no account and no card. Snagcast Pro (US$29.90, one payment, no subscription) translates without limits, adds Pro translation on your computer, and translates into up to 5 languages at once there.

Questions

Does it work on YouTube? Yes. Snagcast captions and translates the videos of the websites you open in it, YouTube included.

What if the video has no captions? Snagcast makes them from the speech as the video plays, then translates them. See captions for a video that has none.

Can I see the original line too? Yes: tick your language and Original under Show. See two captions at once.

Does it translate calls or meetings? No. Snagcast translates the videos you open in it: websites and video files.

Do my videos leave my device? No. There are no Snagcast accounts, no ads and no tracking. Privacy says exactly what leaves your device.
