Snagcast is made to keep your videos and your words on your own device. There are no Snagcast accounts, no ads and no tracking. This page says exactly what does leave your device, where it goes, and why.
What stays on your device
- The videos, sounds and photos you save or clip, and your Library.
- Captions and translation: they are made on your device by models that run there. Nothing you say, watch or type goes to Snagcast for this.
- Your captions and drafts, your history and the sites you have visited.
- Your sign-ins to other sites (on Windows, kept in Snagcast's encrypted browser storage).
- Your Snagcast Pro license key: it is checked on your device, never sent to us. If you buy Pro on Google Play, Google handles the payment under its own privacy policy, and the app keeps Google's record of the purchase on your device.
- Buying Pro on snagcast.com. Stripe takes the payment and keeps your payment details, under Stripe's privacy policy; we never see your card. We keep, per purchase: Stripe's order and payment numbers, the amount, the license key issued, and a one-way hash of the email address you paid with (so we can find your key if you lose it, without keeping your address). To take back refunded keys, Snagcast downloads a list of revoked key numbers from snagcast.com at start; nothing about you is sent with it.
What goes to the sites you use
Snagcast is a browser. When you visit a site, save from it or post to it, your device talks to that site directly, as any browser would, with your sign-in there. What that site collects is covered by its own privacy policy, not this one. Snagcast never sends your sign-ins to us.
What goes to Snagcast
- Update checks. The phone app asks snagcast.com which version to run. It sends the platform, the release channel, its version, and a random install id (made on your phone, used only to give a new version to a share of phones first). The Windows app asks GitHub, which publishes its updates.
- Problem reports, only when you send one. A report holds what you write, the app's version, your device model, system version and language, and a list of the app's recent warnings and failed saves, with web addresses cut to the site's name and file paths removed. A report about a crash or a failed save also holds the error and its technical details (where in the app it happened), shortened the same way. We keep the newest 1,000 reports to fix problems, and delete one on request.
Other services Snagcast uses
- Model and list downloads. Caption, translation and ad-filter files are downloaded from their publishers' hosts (such as Hugging Face and GitHub) when you first need them. Those hosts see your IP address, as for any download.
- This website. snagcast.com runs on Cloudflare, which handles each request to deliver it. The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Downloads for Windows come from GitHub.
Children
Snagcast is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices and rights
You can use Snagcast without sending a problem report, and you can clear your browsing data and sign-ins in Settings. To see or delete a report you sent, or for any question about your privacy, write to privacy@snagcast.com with the approximate time you sent it. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you may have further rights to access or erase your data; we will honor them.
Changes
If this changes, we will update this page and its date. A change to what leaves your device will also be said in the app's release notes.
