Translate a video that has no subtitles
Snagcast is a free app for Windows and Android that translates a video with no captions or subtitles: it makes them from what is said, then translates them into your language in real time, as the video plays.
No CC button, or captions only in a language you don't read? A translation needs words to translate, so Snagcast first hears the speech (100 spoken languages) and writes it down on your device, then translates each line into your language, up to 96 depending on your device (see each one). It works on the videos of the websites you open in Snagcast, YouTube included, and on video files you add.
How to
- Open the video in Snagcast: go to its website, or paste its link. A video file works too.
- Turn on captions: Captions beside the video on Windows, CC on Android.
- In the caption settings, leave the spoken language on Auto-detect, or choose it. Turn on Translate captions and choose your language under Translate to.
- Play the video: the translated captions appear as it plays. Under Show, choose your language, the line as spoken, or both.

- A YouTube video with no CC: open it in Snagcast and turn on captions. Snagcast hears the video and writes them, then translates them.
- Captions only in the language spoken: turn on Translate captions to read them in yours.

Captions made from the speech are free. Each phone and computer also translates 30 minutes of video for free, with no account and no card. Snagcast Pro (US$29.90, one payment, no subscription) translates without limits and adds the most accurate speech models.

Does it work on YouTube? Yes. Snagcast captions and translates the videos of the websites you open in it, YouTube included, whether or not they have captions of their own.
Is it real time? Yes: each line is heard and translated as the video plays. On a slower phone or computer, turn on Wait for captions. See real-time translation.
Can I see the line as spoken too? Yes: tick your language and Original under Show. See two captions at once.
Only captions, no translation? Leave Translate captions off. See captions for a video that has none.
Does it send the video anywhere? No. Captions and translation are made on your device, and there are no Snagcast accounts, ads or tracking. Privacy says exactly what leaves your device.
