Captions for the videos that have none
Many videos online have no captions. Snagcast listens to a video as it plays and writes captions on your phone or computer, so you can follow what is said. It is free, with no limit.
Captions appear as the video plays
How it works
- Open the video in Snagcast: a website you open in it (YouTube included), or a video file of your own.
- Press CC.
- Captions appear as the video plays. If the video has captions of its own, Snagcast shows those instead.
See it on a real video in How it works.
Free, with no limit
Captions in the video's own language are free, made with Standard, the accurate speech model, for as long as you watch. No account, no subscription, no card. On a slower phone, Lite is quicker; on a Mac or an iPhone, Apple's own speech is free too.
Snagcast Pro, one payment, adds the most accurate Pro speech model, translation without limits, and clips without a watermark. Every device gets 30 free minutes of translated captions to try it.
Made to be read
- Caption size: Small, Medium or Large.
- Wait for captions: the video pauses a moment wherever its captions have not caught up, so no line is skipped, then plays on by itself.
- Watch it again: captions made once show at once the next time you play the same video.
- Keep them: captions are kept as subtitle files (.srt) you can open in other players.
- Share a moment: clip the part you want with its captions drawn in.
- In your language: 100 spoken languages become captions, and they can be translated into up to 96 (see each one).
Private by design
The video's speech is turned into captions on your device. Its sound is never sent to Snagcast or anyone else. There are no Snagcast accounts, no ads and no tracking (privacy).
What to expect
- Automatic captions can be wrong. Clear speech comes out well; names, rare words, music, noise and people talking over each other can come out wrong. Check captions before you rely on them for something important.
- Words, not sounds. Captions show what is said. They do not say who is speaking or describe other sounds, such as music or a door closing.
- A moment behind. Each line appears shortly after it is said. Turn on Wait for captions to keep them in step.
- For the most accurate captions, use Standard (free) or Pro, and a newer phone or computer.
Where it works, and where it does not
Snagcast captions the videos it plays: websites you open in it, YouTube included, and your own video files. It does not caption protected videos (such as Netflix or Disney+), live streams, calls, or sound from other apps.
For those, your device may already help: Live Captions on Windows 11 and Live Caption on Android caption most sound your device plays, calls included, in fewer languages, and translate only on some devices. Snagcast adds 100 spoken languages, translation on any device it runs on, and captions you can keep: compared with Windows Live Captions · compared with Android Live Caption.
