Save a video from a web page
Snagcast is a free app for Windows and Android that saves the video you are watching on a website to your device: the whole video, only its sound, or just the part you want, with captions made and translated in real time if you like.
Snagcast opens websites in its own browser. When a page has a video, Save keeps it on your device, and on a page with several it asks which ones. A lost connection doesn't start a save over: it goes on from where it stopped.
How to
- Open the video's page in Snagcast: go to the website, or paste the video's link.
- Press Save. The arrow beside it has Save audio, and on Windows Save as… and Quality too.
- Find the video in the Library, where it plays, clips and shares.
With captions
Turn on captions before you save (see captions in your language), then save: Save on Windows, Save with captions in the caption settings on Android. With Draw into saved video ticked, the captions are drawn into the picture. Either way, each language's .srt subtitle file is saved with the video. Captions are made from 100 spoken languages and translated into up to 96 (see each one).
Only a part, or only the sound
- Clip: set Start and End and save just that stretch, captions and all. See clip with captions.
- Save audio: only the sound, as MP3 on Windows and M4A on Android.
- Record as it plays (Windows): for a player Snagcast cannot save directly, it records the part you choose, picture and sound, as it plays.
What it does not save
Protected (DRM) videos and live streams: Snagcast never works around a site's protection. Only save and share videos you made or have the right to use.
Free, or Pro
Saving is free, with no account and no card. A phone saves one video at a time. With Snagcast Pro (US$29.90, one payment, no subscription) it saves three at once, and Pro takes the Snagcast watermark and end card off clips and copies with captions drawn in.
Questions
Where do saved videos go? Into Snagcast's Library on your device, where they play, clip and share. On Windows, Save as… chooses the folder. On Android, saves can go to your Gallery too.
What if the connection drops? The save waits it out and goes on from where it stopped. A stopped save keeps what it fetched, and Continue picks it up.
Several videos on one page? Save asks which ones, with each one's title and length.
Does it send my videos anywhere? No. Saves go straight to your device, and there are no Snagcast accounts, ads or tracking. Privacy says exactly what leaves your device.
